Memories by Lang Leav

Ta-dah! Here’s to my first ever book review as I have found myself full-book mode in the midst of uncertainties, with all of these happenings in the world, and being entrapped with lots of things in mind.

I never knew who Lang Leav was until my friend introduced me to the words of this novelist & poet. So, I searched all of her masterpiece online, read it and like I swear, her words were so inflicting. It feels like I was the one whose in it. There were too many moments in her collections which I found echoes to and yet to transpire for me.

Memories is a collection of poetry and prose, hand selected from Lang Leav’s two previous books, Love & Misadventure and Lullabies.

What I love about the book is that it has words that are indeed simple, yet so striking, that it could enthrall everyone’s heart. I feel so connected with each of every line.

This book embodied nostalgic lines and stories that strike a chord of twain realizations, happy and sad about my experiences for the past years.

Here are some of my favorite lines:

It was words that I fell for. In the end, it was words that broke my heart.

I do know there are all kinds of barriers to love. I do believe the world needs less of them.

When love finds you, it doesn’t come with crashing waves or thunderbolts. It appears as a song on the radio or a particular blue in the sky. It dawns on you slowly, like a warm winter sunrise- where the promise of summer shines out from with.

You were the storm that changed the skyline. After the damage and the deluge, I could see things so much clearer. There hasn’t been another like you since.

Because losing someone isn’t an occasion or an event. It doesn’t just happen once. It happens over and over again.

When I got to finally have this book, next thing I knew in mind, I wanted to complete the set of her books. Feels like I want to make a deal with a Lang Leav book’s spree.

Memories ticked all the boxes for me.

  1. Never had any Poetry book hit me harder than this one did. Seriously there were some times when I found myself gasping on some poetries. It felt like the author has taken some thoughts from my mind and presented it to me on pages to read and to know what it felt like. This book was just something beautiful.

  2. I heard of these books and I think she did a book tour in Manila last year. However, I must say that the Filipino’s “hugot lines” are much better than hers 🙂

  5. Oh, Lang Leav’s words are beautiful. I love her! They’re the ones that pierce your heart. I have those books and I read them to my children.

  6. Good for you! I haven’t read a book in a long while!!! Hahaha. I remember reading her books when I was in school. I think it only took an hour or two to finish, but I agree. He words are captivating and very relatable. Wanna read it again.

  7. I discovered her because I see quotes from her all over IG from fans! Hahaha 😂 I haven’t gotten the chance to read any of her books yet but I’d love to! ❤️

  8. I have always wanted to own these books but never got the chance to because my mom and dad have instilled in my mind the value of reading books that are related to business, and money-making. Although that’s the case, I was able to read it through the PDF files I found on the internet. I agree with you that the words used in the book were simple but striking. It makes you feel emotions you never knew was inside you.

  9. OMG YOU SHOULD READ THE WHOLE SET OF LANG LEAV! I’m not much into poetry to be honest but there’s something about her words. She always has this power that drowns you into this whirlwind of emotions.

  10. I’ve fallen out of love for poetry so I can’t relate much right now. What’s funny is that these same lines might have been the inspiration for some scripts on Romance and Rom Com stuff in the movies, like that quote on barriers of love.

  11. I have read the book Memories by 2016 and it made me buy the whole set. Hahahahaha! Lang Leav inspired me to write prose poetry years ago. For me, it’s not just the hugot lines that made me love her, you know… Her style is incredible. You should also try reading Michael Faudet. :))
